La Pace fulfils a visceral passion for the creative process and the search for excellence through the cultivation of the earth’s fruits.
Starting from the white canvas of a promising plot of land, we have created a marvelous vineyard, a world-class winery, and exquisite wines. We have achieved all this by leveraging the richness and uniqueness of local nature and drawing inspiration from the soul of the historical and cultural heritage of Tuscany.
To taste a La Pace wine is to take a sensorial dive into creative energy, the force of freeness and the generosity it entails, and the elegance of simplicity.
We undertake each step of our production according to the strictest quality standards, without compromise. The vineyards are all certified organic and all processes are manually executed with care by expert personnel.
A portrait of Gino Maggioni, grandfather of Simone Maggioni and creator of the La Pace brand. Gino was among the most creative architects and designers in Italy in the 1920s and 1930s.
The first La Pace logo, drawn by Gino in 1936 after having settled with his family in the Ligurian countryside near Imperia from Milan, where he had a prominent atelier for furniture manufacturing. La Pace has become a symbol of renewal and creativity.
Silvano Maggioni and Marianita Valdinoci, Simone's parents, discover the land plot on which Podere La Pace is built.
Simone Maggioni, the third generation, brings the La Pace concept to Tuscany and creates the winery, thus extending a tradition of entrepreneurship and exploration.
Podere La Pace lies on seven hectares of land in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, on the Colline Metallifere of Massa Marittima and in front of the gorgeous Follonica bay. A study of the geological features and micro-climatic conditions of the soil led to the decision to grow varieties having an international standing: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay and Viognier.
Starting in 2013, Podere La Pace produces a limited number of bottles, around 30.000 a year. Our wines, all certified organic, are:
Pittoresco (ex-Red Label), a cuvée of the four red grapes, strikes as hearty but agreeably smooth and owes its name to the artistic vocation and temperament of the paintress Marianita Valdinoci, Simone’s mother.
Silvano (ex-Black Label) represents a tribute to Simone’s charismatic father, and is a more complex blend of the four red grapes exalted by aging in French durmast oak barrels for a period of roughly 12-15 months.
The offering of red wines is completed by the gold series; this line is only produced on select vintages and constitutes a spotlight for the purest and most defining expression of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot through three monovarietal wines aged in durmast oak for 18-24 months and subsequently for another 6-12 months in the bottle.
Prima Viola (ex-White Label) is a graceful cuvée of Chardonnay and Viognier named after Tomaso Valdinoci, maternal grandfather of Simone who was the first violist at the La Scala theatre after World War II.
Nina is an effervescent and zesty Viognier which we ferment and refine in small oak barrels for around 8-10 months.
The other products on offer are a Grappa Riserva, distilled from prime red grape marc starting and aged in our barrels for at least 18 months, and a delectable biological extra-virgin olive oil.
